According to Ontario Pork, there has been increasingly more trespassing on farm properties, barns, and processing facilities. Often the individuals trespassing are activists seeking to end animal agriculture.

Ontario's "Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act" (Bill 156) prohibits trespassing on farms in order to eliminate or reduce the risks of exposing farm animals to disease and stress, and introducing contaminants into the food supply. It is also to protect the safety of farmers, their families, and other farm personnel, as well as to prevent any adverse effects on Ontario’s overall economy.

The bill states that no person shall enter in or on an animal protection zone on a farm without the prior consent of the owner or occupier of the farm or facility.
