The Mexican government, through the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), obtained the recognition from Canada of the Classical Swine Fever (CSF)-free status, thus opening a new destination for exports of Mexican pork meat, sector that sold 395 million dollars worth worldwide in 2015.

Mexico had requested the Canadian authorities, in 2009, the recognition its pork products health status, but it was during this administration when the Government of the Republic managed to complete negotiations.

Canada is considered a leader on pork products health, so its recognition of Mexico as a CSF-free country is considered an achievement of the highest importance, and is now able to add the Canadian market to the export destinations for these meat products.
