In 2022, pork exports, including fresh and processed products, reached a total volume of 20,000 tons. This figure represents a decrease of 11.5% compared to the same period last year. In addition, revenue from these shipments fell by 11.4% to US$41.0 million.
Shipments of fresh pork abroad totaled US$ 38.6 million and 17,000 tons, representing 94% of shipments. Uruguay was the main destination for this segment.
In 2022, there was a significant change in Minas Gerais' pork export market. Uruguay overtook Singapore and Hong Kong to become the main buyer, accounting for 28.5% of purchases. Asian countries reduced their purchases by around 50%, due to the recovery of the herd affected by African swine fever.
