Chile and Vietnam sign Memorandum of Understanding

The countries seek collaboration for animal and plant health, especially in disease control, surveillance, and pest eradication.

This agreement covers several key areas for both countries, including collaboration in agricultural policies and rural development, which will be materialized with an exchange of best practices in rural infrastructure policies, agricultural processing capacity, and environmental protection. Collaboration will also be sought for animal and plant health, particularly in disease control, surveillance, and pest eradication.

Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner among the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the 20th largest globally. Chile and Vietnam signed a Free Trade Agreement in 2011, which entered into force in 2014.

In the first half of 2024, trade exchange between both countries reached USD 803.6 million, representing a growth of 1.7% compared to the previous year. Exports reached USD 158.9 million and imports USD 644.7 million.

Chile opened an agricultural attaché office in Vietnam in April 2024 to strengthen economic relations.
