The Chilean Senate approved the agreement that will modernize the current institutional framework that Chile has with the EU, strengthening bilateral relations and joint dialogue, updating political and cooperation issues, facing the new challenges of international trade, including new topics, and granting national products better access to the European market, among other matters.
This new boost to the country's international trade will allow greater insertion of Chilean products in the European market, with the pork and poultry producing and exporting sector being one of the most benefited.
Juan Carlos Domínguez, president of ChileCarne, stated the guild has closely collaborated with national authorities and key players in the export industry to achieve this agreement. Chile's pork and poultry sector has maintained steady growth, positioning itself as the fourth largest food exporter in the country by 2023 and the fifth largest in the world in pork.
The signing of both agreements will strengthen Chile's strategic position in the world by increasing export quotas for pork and poultry meat to Europe. The initial quota for pork will be 11,850 tons, with out-of-quota tariffs ranging from EUR 467 to 869 per 100 kg. The agreement will allow these allocations to increase progressively, favoring the integration of Chilean products into the European market.
