SAG updated the biosecurity regulations for the swine and poultry sectors through Resolutions No. 8057/2024 and No. 7695/2024 to prevent diseases, improve traceability, and promote animal welfare in both sectors. These measures seek to strengthen the protection of the national animal health heritage and align with the international standards of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
The resolution for the swine industry establishes a comprehensive biosecurity system for the different types of producers (industrial and non-industrial), which includes improvements in infrastructure, disinfection protocols, pest control, and waste management, with gradual measures to be implemented over a period of up to 12 months. For the poultry industry, the biosecurity manual was updated for small-scale family farmers and industrial establishments, with new measures for isolation, hygiene, and compliance verification.
These actions reinforce Chile's commitment to food safety and the competitiveness of its pork and poultry sectors, which showed sustained growth in 2023. The new regulations seek to ensure high animal health and welfare standards throughout the production chain, both domestically and internationally.
