According to what has been published by the Asprocer (Trade Association of Chilean Pig Producers), the Chilean pig meat exports grew by 4% (in terms of amount) during 2013 with respect to the previous year.
The estimated grand total of the pig meat exports in 2013 reached $507 million, and in this context, The People's Republic of China was the country that showed a higher growth, reaching a rise by 70% (in terms of value) with respect to 2012. It must be highlighted that during last year, the Asian giant held the fourth place with respect to the destination of the exports of the Chilean pig products, after Japan, South Korea and Russia.
With regard to the pig meat imports, we can see a surprising increase by 90% during 2013 with respect to the previous year, and the main importing countries were US, Canada and Brazil.
Chileans consumed some 18.8 kg of pig meat in 2013: 3.4 kg of them was imported, and it is expected that the imports of this food still grow in 2014.
