- In 2023, there were 5,476,066 head of pigs slaughtered, an increase of 0.2% compared to the 5,464,593 pigs slaughtered in 2022.
- Pork production grew 1.1% over 2022, going from 576,402 to 582,652 tons (t).
- At the regional level, 90.4% of pork production in 2023 was concentrated in O'Higgins, whose production volume reached 526,705 t and reported a growth of 2.3% compared to 2022. Likewise, the regions of Maule and Valparaíso showed positive growth rates of 8.4% and 11.5%, respectively.
- The largest decreases in pork production were seen in the regions of Metropolitana de Santiago (-57.3%), Los Lagos (-40.7%), and Aisén del Gral. Carlos Ibañez del Campo (-27.7%).
- Import volume reached 108,227 t, which represents an increase of 5.1% compared to 2022, while the value of imports reached USD CIF 275.8 million, which is 14.4% higher than the total for 2022 (USD CIF 241.1 million).
- Exports increased by 13% over the previous year, from 234,751 t to 265,238 t, and totaled USD FOB 697.7 million, exceeding the 2022 value by 12.3%.
- Apparent consumption was 425,641 t, down 4.3% compared to 2022 (444,650 t), while per capita consumption was estimated at around 21 kg/inhabitant.
- The share of domestic production in total apparent consumption went from 76.8% in 2022 to 74.6% in 2023, while that of imports increased from 23.2% to 25.4%.
