According to Zhang Zhongqiu, Delegate of China to the OIE and Director General of the Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), the recognition of the five veterinary laboratories of China indicated that the technical capacity of some of our veterinary laboratories had been internationally advanced and widely acknowledged by the international community. MOA would further increase support for development of veterinary infrastructure in collaboration with other related agencies, improve distribution of the laboratory network, enhance capacity-building of laboratories and development of their human resources, upgrade laboratories’ R&D capacity in veterinary diagnostic technologies and their management, and assist qualified veterinary laboratories to apply for the designation of OIE Reference Laboratory in order to improve the capacity and level of China in terms of participating in formulation of international animal health standards and rules, promote foreign trade in animal products and boost the international competitiveness of the livestock and aquaculture sectors of the country.
