Prior to May 2019, only 28 pork companies were authorized to export to China, but since that date new authorizations have brought the total to 57 authorized companies, which has doubled the number of Spanish companies exporting to the Chinese market.
Since 2019, Spain has been the world's leading exporter of pork and pork products to China, ahead of Germany, Brazil, the United States and Denmark.
The main products exported are pig meat and offal, which accounted for 55.3% of Spain's total agricultural exports to China in 2019 (in 2018 they accounted for 35.5% of the total). According to data from China Customs, in 2019 olive oil and olive pomace oil were the second most important product after pork, closely followed by wine.
Also to note, the value of Spanish pork products exported to China in 2019 amounted to 1.13 billion euros, double the previous year's figure, and 119% more than in 2018, according to Spanish trade statistics (Datacomex).
