On March 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China published a notice explaining that the government would be cracking down on the use of clenbuterol (a ß-agonist) in animals with the launch of a three-month special rectification action to further strengthen the supervision of clenbuterol and guarantee the quality and safety of livestock products.

The government called on the relevant authorities to conduct unannounced inspections and test for the substance in the country's livestock and meat supply. In the process of animal breeding, purchasing, trafficking, and slaughter, if any illegal problems of clenbuterol are discovered, they shall be reported to the authorities for investigation and legal action.
