China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that it is further cracking down on illegal activities surrounding fake African swine fever (ASF) vaccines, implementing normalized ASF prevention and control measures, and making every effort to maintain the recovery of pig production.
To date, no country has approved the use of ASF vaccines. The ASF vaccines being used in production in China are not approved and are fake vaccines, which pose great safety risks. All local animal husbandry and veterinary departments are called upon to strengthen the supervision and management of the development and use of ASF vaccines. This includes conducting unannounced investigations and coordinating with public security to file and investigate cases.
Identification and testing of artificial gene deletion strains must be strengthened. If artificial gene deletion strains are found during monitoring, this must be reported to the provincial animal husbandry and veterinary authority.
The Chinese Center for Animal Disease Prevention and Control and the Chinese Center for Animal Health and Epidemiology shall strengthen the epidemiological investigation of the "new strain" of the ASF virus to analyze the virus mutation and epidemic situation.
The Ministry also called upon further increasing the punishment for conducting illegal activities related to fake ASF vaccines, and strengthening connections between administrative law enforcement and criminal justice. The Ministry will award whistleblowers up to 30,000 yuan for reporting verified cases of fake vaccines against African swine fever.
