Each week, between 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of pork will be released from China's central reserves to meet the rising demand during the country's most important holiday, the Spring Festival, which falls on February 12 this year.
Since December 17, 2020, a total of 150,000 tonnes of reserve pork has been released into the market.
On January 20, the average pork price in 36 major Chinese cities increased 3.2% from the beginning of the year due to the rise in seasonal consumption. The average price was down 4.6% from the same period last year.
