According to information published in the Foreign News bulletin of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) reported that grain production will increase substantially this year, as a result of persistent summer and autumn rains, which caused flooding in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, and which will affect the autumn grain harvest.

Thus, according to statements, "this year's grain production will set another record and will remain above 650 million tons for seven consecutive years".

Although the rains that hit the central provinces during the first days of October and caused the overflow of the Weihe, a tributary of the Yellow River, which damaged 367,000 hectares of grain and caused flooding in another 200,000 hectares of agricultural land, this loss has been offset by increased yields in other grain-producing areas, such as in the northeastern provinces. According to the Chinese ministry, about 6.67 million hectares of crops were affected, compared to an average of 24 million hectares over the past 10 years. Rainfall also delayed winter wheat planting in Shanxi by 60%, but experts believe the risk was manageable and expressed confidence in a bumper crop next summer.
