The Workshop on Prevention and Control of Foot and Mouth Disease was held in Lanzhou on Nov.12th, 2013. Participants discussed joint actions against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

A consensus was reached on joint FMD control:

  • First, to draw on experience from the South-East Asian and China Foot and Mouth Disease Campaign (SEACFMD), including exchange and cooperation in terms of technology and administration;
  • Second, to establish and improve dialogue mechanism among veterinary authorities of four countries to communicate major animal health and public health issues of common concerns on a regular basis;
  • Third, to enhance collaborative research on diagnosis technology of animal diseases and comprehensive control measures, encourage cooperation between institutes and veterinary pharmaceuticals from four countries;
  • Fourth, to further intensify TAD prevention and control, joint surveillance in bordering areas, animal movement control and timely response to emerging and re-emerging animal diseases.

Participants are representatives from veterinary authorities of the four countries, FAO Representation in China, China Animal Disease Control Center, China Institute of Veterinary Drugs Control, China Animal Health & Epidemiology Center, Lanzhou Institute of Veterinary Research under Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and Yunnan Animal Science and Veterinary Institute.
