China has reopened its market for Belgian pork, which has been closed to Belgium since the outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars in Wallonia in 2018. The reopening of the market is a result of a diplomatic mission to China with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and other industry representatives.
According to Belgian Meat Office manager Joris Coenen, or now only the companies that were approved for export to China at the time of market closure are allowed to do so. At that time, Belgian pig feet were not allowed to be exported, which will also continue to be true for now.
Officials clarified that there is no intention to start breeding pigs for the Chinese market.
