As a result of the country recovering its FMD-free status with vaccination in 2020, and the joint work between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), and the Colombian livestock sector, the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) announced the lifting of restrictions to advance the process of admissibility of beef and pork destined for this country.

In 2022, the ICA and GACC held meetings in which they reviewed technical aspects of epidemiological surveillance and control and monitoring and evaluation systems in Colombia for officially controlled diseases. Commitments were made by the Institute to advance the process. Thanks to this coordinated work, Colombia received the announcement of the lifting of these restrictions.

With the lifting of these restrictions, the aim is to continue with the pending stages of the admissibility process, making ICA, the National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (INVIMA), and other authorities and stakeholders in this important sector available to meet the requirements of the GACC.
