Following a negotiation process, which started in 2013 with the signing of a protocol on veterinary and health requirements, last week the Chinese authorities finally announced the opening of their market to lso Costa Rican pork products, according to Bernardo Jaen, director general of the National Animal Health Service (SENASA).
The official added that Porcina Americana and Carnes Zamora are the first two pork processing plants authorized by Chinese health authorities for export.
Pig farmers, who plan to export about 1,000 tons of meat next year, predict a strong impact on job creation in rural sectors where most pig farms are located.
