The process of gaining recognition of the country as free of foot and mouth disease began at the end of 2013, led by SENASA. With the current leadership at MIDAGRI and political backing from the Government, this significant achievement for the country was realized this year.
Meat exports to China could reach one million metric tons annually and generate sales of more than USD 5000 million to that market. “The measure will empower small farmers in the Andean and jungle areas who could sell more meat, get better prices, and higher incomes for their farming families,” said the head of MIDAGRI, Angel Manero.
The export of Peruvian agricultural products to China creates great prospects for the Peruvian agricultural sector, considering that China has a potential market with more than 1.4 billion consumers and with the start-up of the new port in Chancay, transportation costs will be reduced, generating greater profitability.
