African swine fever slowing down
African swine fever (ASF) in 2019 caused China ’s hog production capacity to drop significantly, with pork output of 42.55 million tons, a decline of 21.3%. In general, the intensity of the ASF epidemic has decreased significantly compared to last year. Only four reports have been noted so far this year, including one involving wild boar. The three involving domestic pigs killed 324 animals. In the same period last year, 13 outbreaks were reported and 197,000 pigs were killed . Comparing the two, the Ministry consideres that the overall situation is slowing down. But the risk remains as populations are recovering, everyone must remember that ASF has circulated in every province of the country.
