In order to prevent the risk of importing the SARS-CoV-2 virus through contaminated packaging of shipments, a joint prevention and control mechanism has been deployed by the State Council, the General Administration of Market Supervision in conjunction with the General Administration of Customs. These measures improve the traceability management of cold chain food including meat, poultry, and aquatic products and aim to help control the spread of COVID-19.

Cold chain imports will be traced from customs inspection through the entire chain to wholesale, retail, and catering. A rapid and accurate response mechanism is established for problem products, which will serve to strictly control the risk of the pandemic, and maintain public health.

There should be accurate records of inspection and a quarantine letter for each batch of cold chain food. Shipments will be tested and results reported. There should also be proof of disinfection as well as shipment data.
