It is estimated that in 2023, China's planted area for soybeans and rapeseed will increase. The grain planted area is expected to increase by 0.4% over the previous year. It is estimated that grain production will reach 694 million tons in 2023, an increase of just over 1%. Rice and wheat production should remain relatively stable. Corn production is projected up slightly, and soybean production should increase to 21.71 million tons, up 7.0% over the previous year.
In the next ten years, with advancements such as improved agricultural technologies and new water-saving, highly-resistant varieties, it is estimated that grain yields will increase by 9.8%. Corn and soybean yields will increase by 17.8% and 39.3% respectively. Grain production will increase by 1.2% annually on average during the outlook period and is expected to reach 767 million tons in 2032. Self-sufficiency rates of soybeans and oilseeds will continue to increase with soybean production reaching 36.75 million tons and a self-sufficiency rate of 30.7%.
