China's pork production has increased greatly

China has lowered its sow herd inventory target in an effort to control supply and stabilize prices.

USDA predicts that pork production in China will decrease in 2022 due to low inventories and a smaller sow herd.

Since last May, Chinese imports of pork and offal have been below the values of the same month of the previous year.

So far this year, 11 cases of African swine fever have been reported in eight provinces.

According to the Chinese government, the breeding sows in the country are at 102% of the levels they were at the end of 2017.

To encourage pig production, small farms will no longer need environmental approval for their new projects.

Between April and June 2021 excess pork production in China has lowered pork prices, caused small and medium producers to liquidate farm inventories, and limited piglet restocking.

The volume of pork on the Chinese market has continued to increase recently. In May, the slaughter volume increased 44% year-on-year.

A third-level warning for an excessive slump in hog prices alerted pig farmers to adjust their plans to stabilize supplies.

Chinese authorities have released a work plan to improve the mechanism for adjusting pork reserves as part of efforts to stabilize the market as it has seen frequent fluctuations.
