The latest data published by the Chinese statistics service on pork imports show that during December China imported 269,846 tonnes, almost 180% more than in the same month last year (95,384 tonnes).
Total imports for 2019 reached 2,108,264 tonnes, which represents an increase of 75% compared to 2018 (1,192,829 tonnes).
China mainly imports pork from the European Union and the Americas, with Germany, Spain, Canada, Brazil and the United States being the five main suppliers. To meet market demand, the country has gradually opened its market to new countries.
