Colombia and Peru create the Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures

In compliance with the agreements between the Presidents of Colombia and Peru, as a result of the Presidential Meeting and the First Meeting of the Binational Cabinet of Ministers, the health authorities of ICA and INVIMA and SENASA, respectively, created a Binational Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, with the goal of facilitating communication and understanding in relation to sanitary and phytosanitary procedures.

Thus, representatives of the Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, INVIMA and the National Agricultural Health Service of Peru, SENASA, met to develop a proposal memorandum of understanding in order to create the SPS Committee, lay down the rules thereof, the procedures and the annual work plan to be carried out, as well as the exchange of experiences with SPS programs.

In this regard, Rafael Sanmiguel, ICA's Border Protection Deputy, confirmed that Peru would like to gain in-depth knowledge of the Classical Swine Fever eradication program that has developed in the country, while Colombia would like to study the Fruit Fly program and the Declaration of Pest Free Areas for Fruit Flies in Peru.
