Officials from the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) responded to reports of respiratory and systemic problems in pigs in the village of Guasimal in the municipality of San Fernando, Bolivar. The Institute clinically evaluated the animals in the area and found pigs with symptoms consistent with classical swine fever (CSF).

The Institute's veterinarians and technicians took samples for PCR and Elisa Antigen testing, which will allow them to identify whether the sick animals have the CSF virus.

In the area, which is close to the area that tested positive for the disease in 2019, 14 samples of sera and rectal swabs were taken from affected pigs and a necropsy was also done to send tissues for laboratory testing.
