In order to ensure animal health in the sucreño territory, the Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, declared a health emergency state in the municipalities of San Benito Abad, Galeras, San Marcos, San Luis de Sincé, San Juan de Betulia, Sucre, Guaranda and Majagual in the department of Sucre, where there have been outbreaks of classical swine fever (CSF).
The measure, set by resolution 0110 of July 24, 2015, seeks to prevent the spread of CSF virus in Sucre; to achieve this, the ICA is carrying out prevention and control activities that include: investigating reports of clinical pictures compatible with the disease, surveillance visits to 22,711 pigs in 2143 farms, and pigs immunization —about 12,356 pigs have been vaccinated in the outbreak and the surrounding areas, and also about 76,657 doses against the disease have been applied to date this year.
