The General Manager of the ICA, Mr. Luis Humberto Martínez Lacouture, participated in the configuration of the pig health committee in the Atlantic, together with the Secretariat of Departmental Economic Development, the INVIMA, the CRA, Porkcolombia, the SENA, UMATAS and producers to strengthen the pig health prevention and control in the region.
Civil servants of the ICA in the Atlantic section will be in charge of carrying out the health-related activities having to do with the epidemiologic surveillance, education and communication conferences, health control, biosecurity measures, attention to notifications due to suspicions, signs of disease, etc. together with the pig producers in backyard and technified farms.
Among the committee’s activities, we have the sensors’ programmes; the strengthening of the waste products disposal; the strengthening of the health information, communication and education strategies; and the participation of the communities, social organisations and authorities in the environmental sector.
“These organisations’ and producers’ alliances are the key for effectively controlling and preventing the presence of diseases. The ICA carries out a permanent epidemiologic surveillance, monitorings, and education and communication work. With our staff and our analytical ability, we will carry on working to improve the country’s health status and to strengthen the Colombian rural areas,” said Mr. Luis Humberto Martínez Lacouture, General manager of the ICA.
