At the most recent General Assembly of the World Organisation for Animal Health, held at the end of May 2021, the central-eastern zone of Colombia was declared free of classical swine fever (CSF).
The central-eastern zone is made up of the departments of Boyacá, Caquetá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Huila, Meta, Santander, Tolima and Sur del Casanare. This zone joins the first territory certified by the OIE as free of CSF, comprising the departments of Antioquia, Eje Cafetero, Valle del Cauca, Chocó, Norte del Cauca and the municipality of Cajamarca in Tolima.
According to the Colombian Association of Pig Farmers, Porkcolombia, this good news means that 95% of the country's swine production is taking place in territories free of CSF, where the main genetic nuclei and pig processing plants with an export category are located.
