Colombia: Pig slaughter continues to grow at double digit rate

According to preliminary results from ESAG - DANE, the total number of pigs slaughtered in the January - May period reached 2,459,018 head, an increase of 10.3% compared to the same period in 2023.

By region, Cundinamarca (8.4%), Antioquia (6.6%), and Risaralda (6.5%) saw the highest increases in the period.

In May, slaughter totaled 525,295 head, an increase of 5.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and a 4.2% increase compared to April.

In May, the average weight of live animals reached 117.3 kg/head, while carcass weight was 95.4 kg/head. The carcass yield remained at 81.4%.
