The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Andrés Valencia Pinzón, and the ICA's general manager, Ms Deyanira Barrero, announced that before the decision of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH/OIE) of revoking Colombia's status as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination, they will strengthen the surveillance measures that allow to control and avoid the spreading of the disease, that appeared this week in Sogamoso (Boyacá).

The announcement was made by the WOAH/OIE, through its webpage, where it published: “After having received an immediate notification by the WOAH's delegate in Colombia, informing of the detection of a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Boyacá, the approval of the containment area has been revoked, and the status as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination (acknowledged by the World Meeting of the WOAH's delegates in its Resolution of May 22nd, 2018) is suspended as of September 17th.”

The Ministry and the ICA have made a call to the Colombian farmers so they obey the measures implemented by the ICA, and that with their support Colombia has his foot-and-mouth disease-free with vaccination country status restored as soon as possible.

The Minister, Mr Valencia Pinzón, informed that he has started a diplomatic mission so the 20 markets open to the Colombian meat and live animals are kept open.
