In order to re-open markets with Peru, the Colombian Agricultural Institute, together with INVIMA, received an official visit from the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) of Peru's Ministry of Agriculture and Risk.

From November 22- 29, two officials from Peru's veterinary service verified all the activities carried out under the program for the control and eradication of foot and mouth disease on site in Colombia.

SENASA officials visited a pig farm for export and a pig slaughter plant in the department of Antioquia. They also learned first-hand about controls on animal movement and the operation of livestock auctions in the Department of Córdoba.

"Thanks to recovering the country's sanitary status as an FMD-free country with vaccination, Colombia is once again on the path to export. This is how we have already recovered important markets such as Russia, Jordan, Arab Emirates, Egypt, Libya, Vietnam, and Chile," said the manager of the Colombian health authority.

The official added, "We continue to advance in the negotiations with Peru and we are waiting for the decisions from the veterinary service of that country, with the aim of regaining that market again."
