Brazilian grain production may reach 312.4 million tons in the 2022/23 harvest. If confirmed, the volume would surpass the record set in the recently closed season by 41.5 million tons, when 270.9 million tons were harvested. This is what the 1st Grain Crop Survey 2022/23 released on October 6 by the National Supply Company (Conab) indicates.

According to the document, the area destined for planting shows a 2.9% growth in relation to the 2021/22 season and is estimated at 76.6 million hectares.

Soy and corn together should reach a production of 279.3 million tons. In the case of soybeans, Brazilian farmers are expected to dedicate an area of 42.89 million hectares, an increase of 3.4% compared to last year's harvest. Sowing of the grain occurs within the window in the main producing states and has reached 4.6% of the area, with the highest rate recorded in Paraná (9%), followed by Mato Grosso (8.9%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (6%). With the advance of the area, Conab's estimate for oilseed production is 152.4 million tons.

For the first-crop corn, a reduction of 1.5% in the area to be planted is expected, due to higher costs as well as a migration to more profitable crops. Planting is advanced in the South of the country, where frequent and well-distributed rainfall favors its initial development, despite the low temperatures that delayed emergence in some regions.

Even with a smaller area, it is expected that the cereal harvest in the first harvest presents an increase of 14.6%, estimated at 28.69 million tons. The good result is due to the expected recovery of productivity in the current cycle. Adding the three crops of grain throughout the season 2022/23, Conab estimates a production of 126.9 million tons.
