African swine fever has been confirmed in a wild boar found in the Insugherata natural park, in "Grande Raccordo Anulare" in the Italian capital.
This is the first case in central Italy. This new outbreak is about 500 km away from the Liguria-Piedmont area, already affected since the confirmation of the first case this January 7th.
The ASF case was reported and identified by the Zooprophylactic Institute of Lazio and confirmed by the national zooprophylactic reference center of Umbria and Marche.
Today there is a meeting of the group of experts working on ASF, which meets periodically to analyze the cases. The monitoring of the area has been activated to delimit the boundaries of the affected area.
According to the OIE, the epidemiological investigation is still ongoing. At the moment it is hypothesized that the introduction of the ASF virus is purely due to human factors. The analyses confirmed the positivity for genotype 2 as reported, the same strain currently circulating in Europe.
