In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, African swine fever has been detected for the first time in the wild boar population. The wild boar was hunted in Marnitz in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district near the freeway in an area previously free of ASF.
An initial analysis by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries detected a high ASF viral load on Wednesday afternoon, which was confirmed by the Friedrich Loeffler Institute in the evening.
To date, only one case of ASF had been confirmed in domestic pigs in the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The remaining ASF cases detected in Germany have occurred in the states of Brandenburg (wild boar and domestic pigs) and Saxony (wild boar).
