The Ministers of Agriculture of South America participated in a video conference to discuss the harmonization of standards and ensure the free movement of food and supplies in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We seek to establish a common strategy to face this situation that affects us all, and which requires a joint effort by the countries," said Argentine Minister Luis Basterra, noting that through the coordination of the Southern Agricultural Council (CAS), common protocols are being prepared to guarantee the marketing and supply of food in the region, including Colombia. In addition, the ministers agreed to open a permanent line of communication to more quickly exchange information on any problems that may occur.

Basterra and the other Ministers, Antonio Walker Preito (Chile), Tereza Cristina (Brazil), Rodolfo Max Friedmann Alfaro (Paraguay), Carlos María Uriarte (Uruguay), Jorge Luis Montenegro Chavesta (Peru), and Beatriz Eliane Capobiano Sandoval (Bolivia), agreed that despite border closures to passengers from other countries, there are no restrictions on agricultural goods.
