According to data provided by the OIE/WOAH, 38 domestic pig farms have tested positive for classical swine fever, this making the number of susceptible animals reach more than 88,000.
So far, the disease is still located in the prefectures of Gifu, Aichi, Nagano, Shiga and Osaka, and has not spread to other prefectures.
Regarding the cases of the disease in wild boars, as of April 19th, and starting to count from the beginning of the epidemics:
- Gifu: 994 wild boars (163 dead and 831 captured) tested, and 318 (113 dead and 205 captured) positive to CSF.
- Aichi: 233 wild boars (17 dead and 216 captured) tested, and 13 (2 dead and 11 captured) positive to the disease.
- The rest of the prefectures: 276 wild boars (253 dead and 23 captured) from 40 prefectures were tested and all of them were negative for CSF.
Since March 24th, 2019, an oral vaccine (vaccine in bait) has been administered to the wild boars in a selected area in the prefectures of Gifu and Aichi where positive wild boar cases have been detected.
