According to the information published by the Cuban News Agency, the Cuban pig production grew by more than 800 tonnes in 2014 due to a better efficiency in the use of the different kinds of feeding systems, although this rise is still considered insufficient.
According to Mr. Carlos Ortiz, technical and development director of the Swine Group in the Ministry of Agriculture, Cuba gave up importing pork for three years in a row, and although the 155,000 tonnes foreseen in the plans were reached, this amount does not satisfy the population's demand. This value exceeds the record reched in 1989, when 102,403 tonnes were produced.
