The last "new" case dates back to August 11, although five positive animal carcasses (bones) have been found since October, dead for over half a year: October 2019 (1), November 2019 (1), December 2019 (1), January 2020 (1), and the last case February 21, 2020 (1).
A 300 km fence has been gradually installed and has proven to be important in preventing wild boar populations from moving from one area to another, a real hindrance to the spread of the epidemic in the territory. However, no fence is impassable and this is why surveillance is required, especially when opening a barrier to allow a vehicle to pass, it is important to close it as soon as possible.
In conjunction with these first two measures, the public service of the Walloon Region and the hunters actively involved in this fight against ASF have set up a network of 160 traps. As of March 2, this network of traps has resulted in the capture of 1,178 wild boar in the whole area.
Since October 2019, movement is prohibited in forests located in infected areas. This closure is essential to overcoming the disease and avoid any risk of spread, especially through positive wild boar. This measure will remain in force until May 15, 2020.
