African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed in the Czech Republic on December 1, almost five years after the last case was reported to WOAH in April of 2018. The infected wild pig carcass was found in the forest of Liberecký, Liberec near the border with Poland.
The State Veterinary Administration has defined a 200 km2 "infected zone" around the location of the infected carcass. In this area, hunting will be temporarily prohibited and the search for wild boar carcasses will be intensified. Keeping pigs outdoors in the infection zone is prohibited as well as moving pigs into the infection zone, except for immediate slaughter at the slaughterhouse.
