The Danish pig census as of July 1st was 12.3 million heads: this entails a decrease by 2.6% with respect to the same period in 2015, when the census reached 12.6 million pigs, according to the data provided by Danmarks Statistiks.

Regarding the categories, the drop has been by 5.9% (2.46 million) in the case of piglets with less than 20 kg LW, and by 3.2% in the case of the sows.

The composition of the pig population is affected by the great exportation of live pigs outseas. In 2015, a bit more than 12 million live pigs were exported, of which 97% were piglets, destined mainly to Germany and Poland.
