With the latest data available, the European pork exports in 2017 reached 3,819,353 tonnes, this entailing a decrease by 8.1% with respect to 2016, when 4,156,489 tonnes were reached.
In terms of value, the exports reached €7,773 million: a decrease by 1.4% with respect to 2016.
Despite the important drop in exports (-26%), China, with 1.39 million tonnes imported, was the main destination of the European pork exports, with a share of 36.4%. China was followed by Japan, that imported 425,878 tonnes, that represent 11.2% off the share and an increase by 5% with respect to 2016.
Other important destinations were Hong Kong, with 378,701 tonnes and a share of 9.9% (+4.5%); South Korea, with 274,264 tonnes and a share of 7.2% (+5.2%); and The Philippines, with 250,000 tonnes and a share of 6.5% (+5%).
