China is the largest export market outside the EU for the Danish food group. The Danish Minister of Food, Jacob Jensen, traveled to China with the aim of opening doors for Danish companies. Among other matters, the Minister opened a dialogue on the protection of Danish pork exports in the event of African swine fever reaching Denmark. The country has never been affected by ASF, but if it were to reach Denmark, China could stop all Danish pork imports, which in 2022 were worth 6.3 billion kroner. With this protection, if an outbreak hit a Danish farm, only the area where the outbreak is located would be subject to closure, while all other areas could continue to export to China. China welcomed the proposal and expressed its willingness to discuss it.
