During the third quarter of last year Danish meat exports continued to increase. In the period from January to September 2011 there was a 6% increase in exports of fresh and frozen pork compared to the same period in 2010.
While pork exports to EU countries were stable, we see a significant increase in demand in Germany (+9%), the most important market for Danish pork. Increases were also observed for exports to Poland (+3%) and Italy (7%) while exports to the UK fell by 4%.
In relation to exports to third countries highlighted are the sharp declines in shipments to Japan (-5%), Russia (-7%) and Australia (-14%). However, this decline in export volumes was clearly offset by dramatic increases in exports to South Korea (+251%) and China / Hong Kong (+234%). Overall, exports to third countries have increased about 9%.
