Sow mortality dropped in Denmark in 2014, going from 12.7% in 2013 to 11.9%, according to the last data of the SEGES. After the peak in mortality (15%) detected in 2008 and the work carried out by the Swine Investigation Centre, sow mortality as been dropping year after year, and the goal is to reach a mortality lower than 9% in 2018.
By the end of the 1980s, sow mortality was around 4%, but it rose during the two next decades until it reached 15% in 2008.
