The Danish Agriculture Agency has announced that the deadline to modernize pig and cattle barns will be extended by one year. This means that projects that are underway but not completed will have an additional 12 months to be completed.

From 2020 to 2030, 40% of all Danish finishing pig barns will have to be renovated if the current supply to slaughterhouses is to be maintained. In addition, the projects contribute to improving animal welfare, reducing ammonia emissions, and improving the efficiency of pig farms.

The COVID-19 pandemic followed by the invasion of Ukraine has resulted in many farmers being unable to complete their projects. The industry has brought this to the attention of the authorities and this is one of the reasons why the deadline has now been extended.
