Denmark has reduced the use of cephalosporins in pig production by 99%

After a voluntary agreement to abandon the use of cephalosporins in pig production, its use has declined by 99 percent since 2009.

According to data published by the Danish Council of Agriculture and Food (Landbrug & Fodevarer) following a voluntary agreement to abandon the use of cephalosporins in pig production, its use has declined by 99 percent since 2009.

In 2009, the Danish pig producers used 99 kg of cephalosporins, an amount that was reduced to 49 kg in 2010 while in 2011 only 1 kg was used.

On the other hand, according to data from VetStat lso, the overall use of antibiotics in swine production has fallen by almost a fifth between 2010 and 2011.
