Last December, the Danish Swine Investigations Centre (Videncenter for Svineproduktion; VSP) launched a strategic plan to control the spreading of the MRSA CC398 based on three points: reduction of the use of antibiotics on pig farms, more investigation, and the organisation of an important international conference on this matter.
The percentage of farms affected by the MRSA has increased significantly durings the last years. The use of antibiotics has dropped by 10% since 2010 and, although Denmark is one of the countries with a lower antibiotic consumption per kg of meat produced, it is expected that in 2020 there will be an additional drop by 10%.
