Antibiotic consumption per pig has dropped by 5.3% when comparing the number of doses used in 2018 and 2017. Pigs producers have managed to reach a drop of up to 18% in the last five years and of more than 30% in the last 10 years.

Christian Fink Hansen, Director of the SEGES' swine section, said that the drop in antibiotic consumption in Denmark is due, to a great extent, to the effective efforts by the farmers and veterinarians, combined with restrictive policies on antibiotic usage. Fink Hansen also explained that the next important task for pig producers is to avoid the use of zinc.
