Denmark reduces the maximum level of antibiotics in pigs

In order to maintain the positive results, the Fødevarestyrelsen has decided to introduce a small reduction in the maximum level of antibiotics.

According to the Danish Food Department (Fødevarestyrelsen), since early 2010, the use of antibiotics in Danish pig production was significantly reduced. However, during the 2011-12 period, a slight increase in consumption has been detected.

In order to maintain the positive results, the Fødevarestyrelsen has decided to introduce a small reduction in the maximum level of antibiotics.

Antibiotics consumption limit:

Up to May 31, 2013
As of June 1, 2013
Gilts, sows and boars 5,2 5
Piglets (7-30 kg) 28 25
Pigs over 30 kg (excluding gilts, sows and boars) 8 7
